Health and Social Care

KS4

Cambridge National Level 1/2

This vocational qualification is equivalent to a GCSE and is for pupils who wish to learn more about the health and social care sectors involved.
The examined unit of this course covers the principles of care. The mandatory coursework unit involves helping individuals find the support they need following life events. In the two optional units, pupils will produce coursework involving either the planning and delivering creative and therapeutic activities, or health promotion and how to plan your own campaign.

Non-exam assessment (coursework) of 60%.
Final exam of 40%.

Pupils will follow a programme of study that enables progression to both Sixth Form studies and employment, or apprenticeships in the related fields. This can include further training in areas such as Social Work, Education and the Health Service. The skills, which they will develop through KS4 and KS5, are highly valued by employers and universities. These include: effective verbal communication, presentation skills, creative thinking, problem solving, research and planning.

In this unit students will learn about the key topics that are important when caring for and protecting people in health and social care settings.

  • Effective communication in health and social care settings
  • Protecting service users and service providers in health and social care settings


R033 (Mandatory) Supporting individuals through life events

In this unit, students will learn about growth and development through the life stages, and how the needs of individuals have been affected by life events and recommend support to meet their needs.

  • Life stages
  • Impacts of life events
  • Sources of support

In this unit you will research health promotion campaigns and learn about their benefits to society. A health campaign will be planned and delivered.
