Languages Month - Cake Competition

During November in school we have been celebrating languages from across the world, with a range of events taking place. Students have been able to take part in taster sessions in Italian, Portuguese, German and Thai and there have been lunchtime activities like the French Boules game Pétanque and a Flamenco dance class. The canteen also joined in by selling dishes from around the world, including Spanish Churros on a Friday which were very popular.

There have been competitions taking place every week, including our annual Bake Off competition which took place this week. Students were asked to bake and decorate a cake with the theme of a foreign country. There was a huge amount of entries this year and some incredible cakes - from The Lock Ness Monster, to an Egyptian pyramid with hidden treasure, cakes decorated with flags or to look like the world, and even a cake which looked like a pepperoni pizza. We have been so impressed with all your effort, they were all so good, it really was very difficult to choose the winners! Students were then able to buy these cakes at breaktime, with the money raised going to the charity SENSE (a massive £338.06) which supports people living with disabilities, particularly those who are deaf and/or blind. A huge thank you to everyone who has taken part, either by baking or eating, and also to students for joining in with all the different activities this month to celebrate world languages.
