Our Special Educational Needs Base consists of two rooms, one of which is available for our KS4 pupils and the other for KS3. We have computers available for pupils to access online support programmes, access revision activities and complete classwork. Our KS3 space runs a scheduled timetable of activities and support which enables pupils to understand and remember the knowledge set out by the curriculum subjects. We also use this space to run interventions.
Throughout lunch and break times, the Base is staffed and resourced with games and activities for pupils to enjoy. This supported space also offers opportunities to socialise and collaborate with peers.
Together with our feeder primary schools, we work hard to ensure that the transition from Year 6 to Year 7 is successful, We run an Enhanced Transition programme so that those who need more visits can attend at quieter times, or often, they visit as a part of scheduled activities.
Our SEND team, work hard to ensure that our pupils are cared for in an individual way so that we can offer the right support when needed and promote inclusion for all, in all aspects of school life.
Please do get in touch if you have any queries or questions.
Changes to the SEND Code of Practice
The SEND Code of Practice changed in Sept 2014 and was then updated in May 2015. There were a number of significant changes, in particular, the introduction of the Education, Health and Care Plan, which aimed to better coordinate the services working around a child.
As a school, we welcomed these changes and have implemented this new system whilst working closely with the Local Authority.
The current Code of Practice can be found here:
